The Lotus Evora 400 is finally introduced to the Malaysian Market

The Lotus Evora 400 has finally made it to our shores. A year after its unveiling at the Geneva Motorshow. Lotus Cars Malaysia introduced the Evora 400 at their showroom along Jalan Damansara. This car is the latest Evora with lots of improvements. Present at the launch was Chairman of Group Lotus PLC and PROTON, YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed. Also significant at the launch was the handing over of the key to the first owner of the Evora 400, Mr Patrick Tam and that Tun Mahathir himself drove off in a red Evora 400 (a replacement for the original one he had).




Over two thirds of the Evora 400 is new, including the supercharged and charge-cooled mid-mounted 3.5-litre V6 engine. While essentially the same 3.5litre engine, it is now tweaked into producing 400 horsepower and 410 Nm of torque. A new aluminum chassis incorporates a new interior and the lightweight composite body has changed significantly both front and rear and its overall kerbweight has been reduced by 42kg.  The Evora 400 has a maximum speed of 300km/h (186 mph) and an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds (0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds). 

Speaking about the new Evora 400, the sports car is so much more improved than when I last saw the car. That was in the Evora IPS automatic form and you'd be amazed of the current Evora 400's build quality compared to the earlier car. There is still a distinct smell of fiberglass (typically Lotus which uses this material for most of the bodywork) but the panel gaps, joints, seals, plastics and leather used are now close to superb. The paddle shifters are superbly weighted and are magnesium. The door sill is lower and it is now easier to get in and out of the Evora. Those days if I stepped out of a closely priced Porsche Cayman and into the Evora, I'd then come out of the Evora complaining about how shoddy the materials and fittings were. But now, Lotus have basically cracked the low rent interiors and are now giving us quality stuff. Now the Evora has an interior that is worthy of its RM597,999+++ pricetag. 

The prices for the Evora 400 starts at RM597,999 for the 6 speed manual transmission and goes upwards to about RM640,999 with full options and RM610,999 for the Evora 400 Automatic and upwards to RM653,999. There is an early bird promotion if you place your bookings (terms and conditions apply).

Lotus Cars have done well in 2015. Globally the brand has managed to sell over 2,000 units. This is a large jump from the the figures they were making five or so years ago. This year Lotus Cars are on target to break even or even profit a little. This could be the first time Lotus will be in the black ever since Proton had taken over the company in the late 1990s. 

Lotus Cars Malaysia also scored an annual sales number of 33 units for 2015. A good country sales figure for the brand actually (12th globally)

This enables the new Lotus Evora 400 to lap the challenging test track at the Lotus Headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk with a scintillating SEVEN seconds faster than the previous model.
