Truck & Bus News: Volvo Trucks Officially Opens its Largest Dealership to date in Port Klang

I attended the official launch of Volvo Trucks' latest and currently largest dealership in Malaysia on Tuesday, 26th of January. The event was launched by Mr. Bengt Carlsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia and attended by senior management of Volvo Group and Volvo Malaysia, customers, business partners and the media. I did write about this dealership a month or so ago but that was because that was to announce that the dealership was already open for business. It was only on that day that the facility was officially launched in a very grand way.

Occupying a land size of 4.1 acres and with a built-up area of 35,850 square feet, the dealership is located in Taman Perindustrian Bandar Sultan Suleiman in Port Klang is actually located at a very strategic location which most people will notice if you use the Grand Shapadu Highway. The signage for the dealership is visible from afar. It is also surrounded by containers, as the area surrounding the facility is operated by one of Volvo Trucks' largest customers here in Malaysia, TaipanCo Sdn Bhd.

The facility has 20 workstations at the space area of 10 double bays and is able to accommodate service and repair work for up to 24 trucks a day. As Volvo’s largest dealership in the country, the location offers ample parking space for trucks, has good traffic flow, efficient workshop layout and modern workshop equipment. It is seriously big. I happened to drive a small city car to the facility and dwarfed is an understatement.

As for its equipment, the flagship dealership also comes equipped with an overhead crane (for easy lifting of anything weighing up to 3.5tons - such as the truck cabin), brake tester and smoke tester. The workshop area also has a computer system to facilitate easy searching of part number for specific chassis and repair manual, thus allowing for faster turnaround.  And like most of the latest Volvo Trucks dealerships here, amenities such as overnight facility which is equipped with shower and prayer room, complimentary food and beverages, and driver lounge are also available to ensure that truck drivers get their rest before hitting the road again once the truck is ready.

It does pay to drive a Volvo truck these days I suppose.I have to add that these days, the quality of these heavy commercial vehicles extremely good especially when you compare the European brands with one another. What actually differs is the service and maintenance packages as well as facilities like these which make vehicle downtime periods shorter and at the same time, less painful.

This latest and shall I say, greatest Volvo Malaysia dealership now adds more value to those that run and operate Volvo trucks in the Klang valley region. Port Klang itself has over 2,000 Volvo branded trucks plying the area. This is why Volvo Trucks chose to open this 3S dealership here even though the Volvo Malaysia head office is located in Shah Alam, which is technically still within Volvo Malaysia's requirement of having its dealership and service centre location of under three hours from any point in Malaysia.

New and prominent flagship dealership is now Volvo’s largest dealership in the country;

reflects its continuous effort in network expansion and customer service

Port Klang, 28 January 2016 – Volvo Trucks (Volvo), which operates under Volvo

Malaysia, this week held the official opening launch of its flagship dealership in bustling Port

Klang.  The event was launched by Bengt Carlsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia and

attended by senior management of Volvo Group and Volvo Malaysia, customers, business

Volvo’s new Port Klang flagship dealership is the latest development in the company’s

network strategy aimed at raising the bar in retail excellence. Under the plan, Volvo aims to

establish better dealer coverage by reducing the average travel distance between each of its

dealer point to within 3 hours, and to standardize its services according to the company’s

global dealer operation standards.

Speaking at the opening launch, Christophe Martin, President of Asia Oceania Sales, Volvo Group

Trucks said, “Volvo’s aim is to achieve sturdy and steady growth in the region. Our business

is guided by a strategy that takes us closer to the customer through product innovation,

service and people. The opening of our Malaysian flagship dealership underscores this, as it

enables us to create new capabilities to best support our customers.“

Mats Nilsson, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia added “The opening of our new Port

Klang flagship dealership marks the pinnacle of our network expansion strategy. We have

made significant investments into this dealership and we are very pleased to have this

opportunity to continue our track record of growth.”

“This year also marks the Volvo Group’s 50th year of presence in Malaysia. The Group

started operations here in 1966 and we were the first original equipment manufacturer of

trucks that were locally present at that time. Malaysia continues to remain a highly important

market for our truck business and we are positive about achieving stronger growth on the

execution of our strategic plan as we continue our commitment here” said Nilsson.

He added that the dealership will also serve customers of Volvo Buses and that it is built

according to modern workshop design and constructed columns for double bays, allowing for

easier drive-in and out of vehicles that come in for service or repair.

Occupying a land size of 4.1 acres and with a built-up area of 35,850 square feet, the

dealership is located in Taman Perindustrian Bandar Sultan Suleiman in Port Klang. The

facility has 20 workstations at the space area of 10 double bays and is able to accommodate

service and repair work for up to 24 trucks a day.

As Volvo’s largest dealership in the country, the location offers ample parking space for

trucks, has good traffic flow, efficient workshop layout and modern workshop equipment.

The flagship dealership also comes equipped with an overhead crane, brake tester and smoke

tester. The workshop area also has a computer system to facilitate easy searching of part

number for specific chassis and repair manual, thus allowing for faster turnaround.

Nilsson further said, “The location of our Port Klang flagship dealership is very strategic as it

is located along the main transport flow. There is a population of at least 2,000 Volvo trucks

ply the Port Klang area and we are located right at the heart of it. Many of our customers are

here or have logistic activities in this area, thus this dealership definitely enhances our reach

and readiness to service them whenever they need us.”

Amenities such as overnight facility which is equipped with shower and prayer room,

complimentary food and beverages, and driver lounge are also available to ensure that truck

drivers get their rest before hitting the road again once the truck is ready.
