TUV Rheinland has opened the first independent tire testing laboratory in Indonesia . Located in Taman Tekno BSD, South Tangerang , the new 530 sq.m lab is fully certified by the Indonesia National Accreditation Body (KAN) and qualified to test passenger car, truck, bus and motorcycle tires to the latest national and international standards.
This is in line with the predicted growth of the Indonesian automotive industry. It also shows the seriousness of the nation in road safety and the fact that the market over there is large enough for an independent tyre testing facility.
The facility will test under the following standards:
Wheel Testing Standards
▪ SNI (Indonesia National Standard) for two- and four-wheel vehicles: steel and alloy wheels (SNI 1896)
▪ SNI (Indonesia National Standard) for motor vehicles with two or more wheels (SNI 4658)
▪ UN ECE-R124 for replacement wheels for passenger cars and trailers ▪ German StVZO as guideline for after-market wheels
▪ Brazil Inmetro standards
Tire Testing Standards
▪ Indonesia SNI 0098, SNI 0099, SNI 0100 for passenger car, light truck and truck bus
▪ Indonesia SNI 0101 for motorcycle
▪ UN ECE-R30, R54 and R75 for passenger car, commercial vehicle and motorcycle
▪ Japan JIS D4230 for passenger car, light truck and truck bus
▪ Brazil Inmetro R165 for passenger car; R205 for light truck and truck bus
Quite thorough from the looks of things. I think this sort of news would mean that eventually tyres from Indonesia will be undoubtedly world class in quality. What does that tell you about the standard of the automotive industry over there?
