INDUSTRY NEWS: MY AUTO FEST 2016 nets about RM20 million worth of bookings.


 The recent My Auto Fest 2016 which was held over the weekend of 20th to the 22nd May 2016 was quite a success according to its organisers, the Malaysian Automotive Association. The sales driven auto show actually netted about RM20 million worth of bookings which I hope translates into actual sales after this. It was also the platform for various car manufacturers to preview their products. 




Honda previewed the new Civic this was pretty interesting and could be the saviour for the C segment sedan here in Malaysia. These days, we see more small B segment and larger D segment dominating sales of sedans here in Malaysia. It used to be a more equal distribution between the B,C,and D segments but these days, with the increase in small SUV popularity, the C segment sedan sales have suffered. Maybe with this new Civic things would change.


Peugeot also previewed the 408 e-THP, the new C segment sedan. Toyota previewed the Sienta, a Perodua Alza sized MPV which has sliding doors. This should be an ideal and timely replacement for the Toyota Avanza. It truly needs replacing. Have you seen the shield-like grille they decided to slap onto the Avanza without much real thought?


Proton teased the Perdana. And there were other interesting stuff like test drives, food and other goodies. The auto show was not a large one, but with all the new car previews it actually felt like something to be actually proud of. It is no Bangkok or Jakarta motor shows, but it was still exciting. For me actually. I got to meet up with interesting people aside from getting to view some new cars in one spot. I hope this would be a yearly affair. It would give the general public a peek into the automotive world instead of just going to showrooms which some actually dread. I also know parents had taken the opportunity to bring their children to view the cars on display. Start them young I say.

My Auto Fest nets in RM20 million sales bookings

About RM20 million sales of cars were netted at the three-day My Auto

Fest show held over the weekend from 20 – 22 May.

“This was our inaugural show and we are happy with what has been

achieved. The exhibiting car companies went all out to offer excellent

deals and discounts at this sales-oriented show, as well as bringing in

some latest models for exclusive preview,” said Datuk Aishah Ahmad,

president of the Malaysian Automotive Association and organising

chairman, My Auto Fest 2016.

“Entrance was free and many of the visitors came as family groups

specifically to shop for cars.

“They came with a budget in mind and to compare the different options

available all under one roof. Most of them spent hours comparing prices

between the different models on show as well on test driving them

before making their bookings.

“Another great attraction was the “Buy a Car Win a Car” contest where

visitors who placed their bookings on a new car stood a chance to win a

Nissan Almera 1.5L,” said Datuk Aishah.

With all major car companies offering deals exclusively at the auto show,

the show was a magnetic draw for visitors, both young and old, as well

as an opportunity to view exclusive previews of the soon to be launched

Toyota small MPV, the Sienta, the all-new Honda Civic and the Peugeot

408 e-THP models, as well the first Asia Pacific preview of the Hyundai

Ioniq hybrid.

Over at the Honda Malaysia booth, the 10 th generation Honda Civic was

a crowd puller, drawing visitors even from outstation to get a first hand

view of the car before they made their bookings.

The Toyota Sienta MPV was replaced after the first day’s preview on

Friday 20 May by the newly launched Toyota Fortuner. The newly

launched Toyota Hilux pick-up and the Fortuner SUV were available for

test drives.

The soon-to- be-launched Peugeot 408 e-THP, with an all-new engine

and body had its fair share of enquires alongside Kia and Citroen

models displayed at the Naza Holdings booth.

At the Proton booth, visitors were delighted to get a peek-a- boo look at

the Proton Perdana which is set to be launched within the next few

weeks as well as the cross over models of the Proton Iriz and Suprima.

The Edaran Tan Chong booth was kept busy with a steady flow of

visitors checking out the attractive rebates offered on the Nissan Almera,

Grand Livina, Teana, Serena S-hybrid, all new X-Trail SUV and Navara

pick-up truck, together with one million AirAsia Big points up for grabs.

Other major car brands that offered exclusive deals and discounts were

Daihatsu, Ford, Jeep, Quill Automobiles (BMW cars), Subaru and Tata.

At the foyer of the Mines Exhibition hall, the venue of the show, the new

Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid and the Jaguar XE proved their aspirational

status, being thronged by admiring visitors throughout the duration of the

show.

Public Bank, Bank Simpanan Nasional, RHB Bank together with AIG

Insurance and Liberty Insurance were on hand to assist in financing and

insuring the special deals.

Speed & Wheels e-magazine, a 28-page free digital Malay motoring

magazine in the Malaysian market under the New Straits Times (NSTP),

was launched at the show on 21 May.

Nine food trucks located at the end of the exhibition hall served a variety

of cuisine including fresh coffees, burgers, fruit shakes, Malaysian and

Thai rice dishes, Mexican and American snacks, European pasta dishes

and Korean ice cream.

“The food trucks did good business because they offered value for

money meals. As organisers we supported good quality food truck

operators by not charging commission on sales but only a minimum

commitment fee” said Datuk Aishah.

Visitors were also given the opportunity to vote for their favourite food

truck.

At the end of the show, the top three favourite food trucks were Black

Movement which served beverages, Portuguese egg tarts; Mat Rock, a

favourite with lunch and dinner crowds for its rice with turmeric flavoured

meat dishes, and Big Hug popular for its big burgers and variety of

potato snacks.

Other side attractions were the accessory booths with a variety of car

care products and engine oils, automotive parts and components for all

kinds of cars.

Lifestyle booths offering Ai artisanal yogurt, Serasi all-natural  handmade

skincare products, health drinks and body care products, cosmetics,

jewellery and relaxing shoulder massage, together with a children’s

corner with popcorn and cotton candy made it a wholesome family

outing.
